Pick of the Day

My pick of the day is in honor of my son the rugby player who is dealing with some health issues and will miss the upcoming season. This card is from FranticMeerkat's shop. Click on the link above or go to www.franticmeerkat.etsy.com. I love this!

B&B Jewelry presents The Killer Bs

Hello all, I haven't posted in awhile. I've been busy with family, work, the home, the dogs and of course crafting.

I realized my jewelry has gone in two very distinct directions and I found my original Etsy shop seemed a bit cluttered. My solution to this was to create a new Etsy shop.

Some items you will find in both my shops:

Sunday August 9 was Marda Loops Marda Gras street festival. I had a table set up but it turned out to be a rather disapointing day for sales. On the plus side I got a lot of great feedback on my jewelry and ran out of business cards so hopefully people will remember me at Christmas time! We couldn't have asked for better weather and it was an enjoyable atmosphere.

Sneak Preview

I have some new items going to White Raven Emporium in August but I thought I would give a sneak peek as I'm so excited about them. Both the necklace and the bracelet use Swarovski crystals and the necklace has a sterling silver chain and pretty heart toggle closure.

The necklace is double-sided with a different colour of the Warhol print on the other side. I am working on a number of pieces and should have them ready to go in a couple of weeks!

Pick of the Week

Once again I have two picks.

The first is not just one item but a shop. Check out http://www.porkchopshow.etsy.com/.

Getting my Stuff Out There!

It's been a very busy few weeks for me and I'm very excited about things!

I met a wonderful lady at the Lake Chaparral Stampede Breakfast and craft sale who runs a shop out of Irricana called Mink and Manure. Jennifer was very interested in my jewelry and you can now find my western pinup pendants exclusively at her shop and through the trunk shows she brings to people's homes. Thanks Jennifer! Click on the link above to go to the Mink and Manure website.

I also found some jewelry and handmade friends in Sarah and Cheryl.

Cheryl is the proprietor of White Raven Emporium in Didsbury. She has added a number of my pieces to her wonderful store and she and Sarah gave me some great advice about my work. Thanks for the boost of confidence Cheryl! I think I did most of my Christmas shopping while I was in White Raven, love those birdhouses! Come to Didsbury and check it out, 2019 - 19th Avenue.

One of the things that both Cheryl and Sarah spoke to me about was how to price my jewelry. I knew that I was underpricing my items considering the time, effort and materials that go into every piece but I was afraid of pushing business away. They both made me realize that if someone wants a one of a kind (yes, one of a kind, I don't mass produce anything, I make one and then break the mold!), handmade pendant or charm bracelet then they will appreciate the work and uniqueness of the item and will pay for it. If someone wants a bargain there are many places they can go to purchase mass produced jewelry.

Sarah Moore also has some of her work at White Raven Emporium and her work will be seen at Alberta Fashion Week October 4 - 10.

Go to www.albertafashionweek.com and look for Datona Designs.

Way to go Sarah and good luck!

I'm still working my Etsy shop but have taken most of my items off the active list and am working on better pricing and new pieces. I am working on some really fun pieces and they should be starting to appear over the next 1 - 3 weeks.

Pick of the Day

I have a couple of picks of the day. I thought since I talked about animal cruelty in my last post I would pick some items from Etsy for Animals team members.

Yeehaw! It's Stampede Time!

I have a love/hate relationship with the Stampede.

I'm a native Calgarian and have never missed the Stampede. I go every year, I go on the rides, I play some games, I eat the corndogs and the mini-donuts. I love it! I love the atmosphere in the city for these 10 days. I love the free breakfasts all over the city and the party feel.

However...

I don't like the rodeo, I think it's a horrible display of animal abuse, same with the chuckwagon races. I'm tired of the cowboy mentality. Calgary is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city but all we are known for is being a bunch of rednecks. I think the way our newcasters play dressup and report about Afghanistan is silly.

I would like to see the Stampede be just a part of our city and one of MANY reasons to visit. I would like visitors from around the world to know there is so much more to my hometown than corndogs and animal cruelty.
